Pupfit 2021- $147,000 raised!!
Buddy Bites compete at Pupfit 2021

In case you missed it, on 30th October, CrossFit Asphodel in Kennedy Town hosted a charity CrossFit tournament “Pupfit”, raising money and awareness for Catherine’s Puppies and Sai Kung Strays & Friends. This event has been running for a few years, incredibly well organized by Nick Worley (Asphodel regular and HK mix adopter!).

This year, not only were we proud to sponsor the event but Founder Chris led a team of 4 in the competition, joined by husband & wife combo Chris & Michelle O’Brien and Tyler Botha. Before the four could show what they were made of against the teams from gyms all over Hong Kong, the most important competition was taking place – Fundraising! With prizes on offer for the top 3 teams in terms of money raised by ’hounding’ their nearest and dearest, the race was on throughout October.

Then it came to the main event. Such a great day for all involved. Covid has kept the brakes on live, in-person events of all varieties, CrossFit competitions included. So, to have the fantastic gym space at Asphodel packed to the rafters with teams and supporters, was a very special feeling.

The competition spanned 3 events and it was clear from the outset that, although this was for charity, people had missed the competition floor and were there to jostle for the podium spots. Despite this fierce competition, ‘Team Buddy Bites’ placed 2nd, behind a very strong team from Coastal Fitness, with some phenomenal performances from Michelle and Tyler in particular. We also felt they could have won best dressed with their tie dye ensembles….maybe next year.

Most importantly though, Team Buddy Bites took gold in the fundraising competition (!) raising just shy of 30k, out of a total 147k raised for the shelters. Whilst it is always nice to aim for first place, it was even more rewarding to be part of such a great cause and fun event, with the shelter dogs of HK being the main winners. Yes, well done to Chris and Team Buddy Bites, but massive congrats to all that took part, to Cris & Vanessa for hosting and to Nick for organizing. Last but not least, to all those that sponsored any of the teams!!

See you again next year!!
